Scripture examples of anointing oil use
Anointing oil was used in several instances in the Bible. It was often used as a symbol of consecration, purification, and healing. Some examples of people in the Bible who used anointing oil include:
- Aaron and his sons: In the Old Testament, Aaron and his sons were consecrated as priests through the use of anointing oil. The oil was poured over their heads as a sign of their appointment to serve in the Tabernacle (Exodus 29:7).
- David: When David was anointed as king of Israel, the prophet Samuel used anointing oil to symbolize the Lord's choice of David to rule over the nation (1 Samuel 16:13).
- Jesus: In the New Testament, Jesus was anointed with costly perfume by a woman who poured it over his head as an act of worship (Matthew 26:7).
- The sick: In the New Testament, James advises that anointing oil be used to pray for the healing of the sick (James 5:14).
Anointing oil has long been used in religious ceremonies and as a symbol of the Holy Spirit. It continues to be used in some Christian traditions today
