THE SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF BIBLICAL ANOINTING OILS

In temple times, Frankincense was burned on the Altar of Incense, one of the three gifts brought to Messiah (intercession) Song of Songs 3:6, Isaiah 53:5, Hebrews 3:24

During the six months leading up to Esther's presentation to the king, she bathed in oil of myrrh (purification, dying to self, and preparing for the king) Esther 2:12, Song of Songs 1:13.

Hebrews used Hyssop to cleanse and purify themselves as part of their cleansing rituals and certain sacrifices (Psalm 51:7).

In ancient times, pomegranates were highly prized fruits. Their motif was used to decorate temples and embroidered on high priest's garments (fruitfulness, abundance, blessings, favor of God) Numbers 13:23

Spikenard: fragrant oil used by Mary to anoint Jesus' head and feet (intimacy, extravagant worship) in John 12:2-3

Song of Songs 2:1: Rose of Sharon: Symbol of the beloved (beauty of the bride)

Lilies are renowned for their elegance and pure white color, which symbolizes beauty and purity. A "lily of the valley" is referred to in Song of Solomon, where the writer describes his love as a lily amidst thorns - something pure that stands out from the harshness around it. In the Sermon on the Mount, Christ mentions lilies, saying: "Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed as one of these." (Matthew 6:28-29).

Rain is mentioned throughout Scripture as a means of providing and preparing for harvest, both physically and spiritually. The "latter rain" ripened the harvest. In the same way that farmers wait for the harvest, believers wait for the coming of the Lord: "Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord comes.". The farmer patiently awaits the fall and spring rains before reaping his valuable crop. (James 5:7).

making anointing oil

Mount of Olives’s anointing oils are made from extra virgin olive oil balanced with carefully extracted ancient antioxidant polyphenols from olives and plant based essential oils and biblical spices, using some of the same apothecary methods as in Biblical times.
